STAR WARS REVELATIONS

Star Wars Revelations
I LOVED IT! This movie is the height of nerdyness and yet it is sheer genius. The creators need to be hailed for the sheer audacity of this film. The CGI in the movie was better than many professional productions, and the score is once again professional level. There is no Star Wars fan film that compares to this movie, and the only other fan film that even comes close is the famous "5 Year Mission" series. But those are about Star Trek so they cant even come close to the awesomeness that was "Revelations." My only complaint is that the acting in "Revelations" was sub par. They could have stood to get some better actors, but the actors they have are adequate. (On a side note, I found the acting and plot of "5 Year Mission" to be better, but still not as much fun) I would definitely recommend braving the long download. You will not be disappointed.

MORE PIRATES OF CARRIBEAN STUFF

Ahoy!
DAVY JONES SHIP
The ship that Davy Jones will be using in Pirates of the Caribbean 2 has some high quality pictures of it posted on Dark Horizons. I got to say, this is way better than that leaked trailer. I seriously spent several minutes looking at the fine craftsmanship on that ship. The ship goes to the level of detail that the Lord of the Rings design crew went to. Take a look for yourself, it really is amazing.

XMEN 3

Xmen3
It was announced today what the plot of X-Men 3 is going to be. This movie is being eagerly awaited by the whole comic book community, because the first two were just that awesome. The plot is definitely going to center around mutants who cannot blend in with the rest of humanity (such as Beast, Iceman, and Nightcrawler) and the problems that causes them. The other two films have had Beast in them, but he never had a very big role. Personally I would love to see Beast just beat down on some guy completely because, well, he can. But I also know that will not be happening because that is exactly the thing the Beast will not be doing for two reasons. The first being that he is insanely smart and thus would not do so. Two, in the comic books, he is extremely conscientious of the fact that he is expected to do things like this and behave like Wolverine when fighting (or at least that is how I have always thought it was) and thus he does not do so, because he is not Wolverine.

NARNIA

Narnia
One of the most anticipated movies of the year, Narnia, is now only ten days away from being released so I thought now might be a good time to do some information on it. A nine minute SUPERTRAILER has been released for those recently and I must say that I think this movie is going to smash records. If it’s a well done, well acted movie then it will make tons of money over the holidays. I know I will be going to see it. Everyone knows this story, and a well done movie that’s appropriate for the whole family is not something that happens very often.
Link to supertrailer SUPERTRAILER

If you are as pumped as I am for this movie, have a peek at the Minotaurs costume, courtesy of IGN FILMFORCE. They have close up pictures of the costume that the Minotaur is wearing as well as his weaponry. The “Otmin two headed” axe looks so large and heavy that you would have to be a Minotaur to carry it into battle. But hey, it’s a Minotaur so I am sure it twirls it around like a toothpick. Seeing the Minotaur beat down on stuff will be almost as cool as when Eowyn and the Nazgul had the fight with the mace in LOTR ROTK
THE MINOTAUR
ALSO--- A letter by C.S. Lewis(the author of the Narnia books for those of you who did not know) has recently surface in which he says that a live action version would be “blasphemous” But it is also clear that he is talking about a live action version where the creatures would all be played by people in costumes. The Narnia movie isn’t going to have the creatures played by people in costumes. Thus I think it falls under the category “not blasphemous” Oh well, blasphemous or not, I am still planning on attending this movie.

RIP Mr. Miyagi

Pat Morita who played Mr. Miyagi in "The Karate Kid 1-3" died last night at age 73. He died of natural causes according to his wife. He was in lots of other films and shows but I will always remember him for his oscar nominated role of Mr. Miyagi. he made the Karate Kid films great. The other actors were lame but Miyagi was awesome. He could do all sorts of amazing stuff like stop arrows and stuff. He was the best! We will remember you Pat Morita. Rest in Peace!

Fan Films!!!

Star Wars Revelations has been released!!!! This is a little late but with all the major movie news right now I have been a little busy watching that stuff. I have been hearing about Revelations for like 3 years now. This is the biggest star war fan film that has ever been made. Over 40 minutes long and using entirely diffrent characters and plot then the regular Star Wars movies. I am going to watch it tonite, expect a review tomorrow.

Pirates of the Caribean 2 Trailer

Okay I got a pirate tape of the POTC2 trailer. The video quality is somewhat low and personally I felt this made the trailer alot worse. It made it hard to see what was going on. But, hey what can you expect from a leaked copy. The movie seems to be about a debt Captain Jack owes to Davy Jones.(of Davy Jones Locker fame) Anyway take a look and have a happy thanksgiving!

Rent gets blasted

In todays Star Tribune, The new movie "Rent" gets blasted by my new favorite reviewer Colin Covert. He just absolutely lays the verbal smackdown on this movie. Some highlights
The characters are mostly colorful lowlifes with "lovable" eccentricities such as not paying their bills, robbing ATM machines and drumming on a 10-gallon pickle bucket so energetically it drives a dog to suicide.

A lot has been made of the show's multicultural makeup, but like a corporation that mocks diversity by hiring conformists of all colors, "Rent" offers the blandest racial smorgasbord imaginable.

Seriously read the whole review its awesome. Colin Covert, I will be reading what you have to say in the future. More reviews like this and I will be demanding that you replace Jeff Strickler as Minneapolis head reviewer
Link: Star Tribune review

For more review goodness, the new movie "Yours, Mine and Ours" has garnered one of the lowest ratings overall that I have seen on Rotten Tomatoes. It has 7%!!! You read that correctly. At the time I am writing this, 7 people out of 100 would walk out of the theatre and have enjoyed it.

Super Mario band video

I felt this blog was lacking some stupid viral videos. So see this one of a group of students at some talent contest doing a cover of the Super Mario songs before it is all over the web. Enjoy the smug satisfaction that you know about it before everyone else. I am sure ebaumsworld will have it soon enough

m.night shylaman's "Lady in the Water"

New trailer posted today for the movie "Lady in the Water" Its another M.Night Shylaman movie and thus we all know the end will have a huge twist. Or maybe the big twist will be that it doesnt have a twist. That certainly would be a twist. Anyway the trailer looks like an artsy emo film at first. When I saw the trailer, I wasnt paying attention to who directed it or anything and was thinking--- Oh great another artsy movie. Just what the world needed" and then suddenly was shocked to discover two things 1: Paul Giamatti (I hope I spelled that right) is in the movie. 2: Its a horror movie. The trailer was after that point a great trailer and I am now mildly excited to see this movie. Check it out

Harry Potter Speculation

I know that many many film fans like myself also love the book series Harry Potter. And that is why this post is about a non film related subject. It appears that in the Dutch Release of Harry Potter has instead of R.A.B., R.A.Z. The Dutch way of saying Black is "Zwarts" which lends a lot of evidence to the idea that R.A.B. is Siriuses brother Regulus.(I think that is spelled right?)
link to article: WILD SPECULATION YO
Also for more Harry Potter related goodness check out "Harry and the Potters"
They are a rock band that sings about Harry Potter. I am probably going to have to get their album soon, because they are just that awesome. Anyway have a listen---Warning though you will get embarrassingly bad choruses stuck in your head like "Cho CHAAAANG, what have I done? I don't want to hear about, hear about when you and Cedric were snogging" Dang I hope these guys come up to play in M-dub soon because that would be awesome

Pirates of the Caribbean 3 Script Review

WHOA I just read a review to the script of Pirates of the Caribean 3. I cant really comment on it all that much because the whole entire thing is full of spoilers. FULL OF THEM I TELL YOU. So do not click on this link or read any further because by reading this, you will spoil not only POTC3 but POTC2 because it tells about alot of what goes on. But if you are like me and cant resist a good spoiler-- read this link

Rush Hour 3

The other major news circulating on the blogosphere today is that Rush Hour 3 has finally been negotiated and is beginning preproduction. Chris Tucker and Jackie Chan signed on to the production this week. Chris Tucker to a cool 20 million and Chan to 10 million dollars. To add to that, to get all of the main actors back, New Line is offering up 40% of profit as well to Tucker, Chan, and others. 40!%!%!%!% That is a whole lot. I have never seen either of the Rush Hour movies, but they did look funny. Lets hope this movie is funny, otherwise New Line is going to be out a lot of money. Also Chris Tucker---20 million? That is a major line to cross for an actor, especially one whose last movie was Rush Hour 2. He must be a great negotiator to get that so here is cheers to him for making that line!

Harry Potter 4 Opening weekend money$$$

Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire had the 4th best openin weekend of all time. While the numbers are not final yet, It appears that it made 101.4 million on opening weekend. It is also the only movie to do so that has not opened in May or June. I have a premonition that this movie is going to be breaking all kinds of records. Its just so great. The Harry Potter series has never been more popular, and the movie accompniments have never been better so that is why I am predicting such success

Uwe Boll makes me laugh

Seriously Uwe Boll is the man. This article I found is from 3/05 so its not at all recent but it features some lines from Uwe Boll that made me laugh out loud to the point I started coughing. He says in his interview about how long his movie adaptation of semi popular video game "DUNGEON SIEGE", and I quote "There were reports that we were going to release it in two parts because it is super long, but then I saw that King Kong is being released as a three-hour film, and we decided it was not going to be a problem to have a longer version" Mr. Boll, please do not take the liberty of comparing your crappy movie with what has a great likelihood of being a masterpiece. Also Boll goes on to talk about how instead of being released in two parts it will instead be released in one mind numbing movie that is around 2 HOURS AND 40 MINUTES LONG. No ones attention span will last that long. Seriously this movie is going to fail to an epic degree.

SUPERMAN RETURNS

The teaser trailer for Superman Returns has been posted. Its so great. I love the ideas behind this trailer. It just seems so epic. Superman has always seemed to be the ultimate embodiment of good and this trailer makes him look like a pure good warrior. Bonus: In the trailer the word Kal-el is used. Some celebrity-I forgot which one named their child Kal-el recently. Thats pretty awesome. I personally are not as big of a fan of DC Comics, but based on Batman Returns, they may be doing a much better job than Marvel who is so hit and miss. Heres to hoping this movie is awesome

Harry Potter and The Goblet of Fire REVIEW

Last night at 12:01 am the curtain rose and I saw the new Harry Potter movie. Even though I had to get up today at 5:30 in the morning for school, It was worth it. The movie is bloody amazing! I know some of my friends who like to drink the hatred thought that the movie was dumb because it was not super super faithful to the book. I felt that the movie was as faithful as it could be to cut the huge volume that was GOF into a 2 and a half hour movie. They cut a lot of the stuff from the first 200 pages to shorten it, and it shows. This was the one major weak point of the movie because for the first 30-40 minutes the movie skips from scene to scene rather abruptly. But in my opinion that was the only major weakness. The acting was much much better than in the first 2, especially Harry and Hermione. Emma Watson is soooooooo hot at the yule ball (hey man i am only 1 year older than her so that's not weird for me to say) Actually she is hot in the entire movie, but especially in this scene. Hermione and Ron have a great scene during the ball. I don't want to say any more. Ron and the rest of the Weasleys seem to serve as the comic relief of the movie. Fred and George are like uber stoners throughout the whole entire movie and utter lines that seem straight out of "Dude Wheres My Car?" When I say that, I mean it in the best way. The movie would have been incredibly dark without this comic relief. The Death Eaters are seriously scary and the graveyard scene was depressing. Overall I loved this movie. It is a great addition to the Harry Potter franchise, and I feel that if I had to rank the movies I would put them in reverse chronological order. The forth is by far the best, 3rd is 2nd best, and so on. Anyway see for yourself, this movie is almost as much fun as Serenity was!
peace out,
jeff

A Scanner Darkly

Whoa, this isnt new news but I just saw the actual plot for "A Scanner Darkly" and I must say it is very very sweet. Here it is Plot: "Set in a future world where America has lost the war on drugs, undercover cop Fred (Reeves) is one of many agents hooked on the popular drug Substance D, which causes its users to develop split personalities. Fred, for instance, is also Bob, a notorious drug dealer. Along with his superior officers, Fred sets up an elaborate scheme to catch Bob and tear down his operation. Based on the Philip K. Dick novel." First off, the words Phillip K. Dick are magic to my ears. Thats all I needed to hear. Secondly this just sounds plain awesome. The animation style in the trailer is crazy weird but I like it so its good

Emma Frost- Xmen 3

Its a rumor that Emma Frost will be appearing in Xmen 3. Emma Frost was one of my favorite characters back during "Generation X" and when she was the white Queen. In the main X-men storyline she isnt that cool now, but hopefully she will be awesome in this movie. Also in the rumor the actress Ashley Hartman from "The O.C." fame will be Emma Frost. I googled her and she does seem to look the part. Here is her imdb page EMMA FROST?
Alright peace out,

First Descent

The trailer for First Descent was finally posted on Quicktime.com This movie is produced by Mountain Dew films and it chronicles the "story of the snowboarding revolution" Mountain Dew? Check. Extreme Action? Check. Pointless extreme slogans? Definite Check! Mountain Dew advocates a horrendously stupid view of the "action sport lifestyle" where its "go big or go home dude." To see them sponsor a film about an "extreme" sport that has so many people doing it, its as mainstream as football is not surprising because it will have a large audience draw and will work well as a marketing tool. The movie itself has a pretty sweet trailer, including 3 bits that are my favorite. In the beginning of it someone exclaims "holy shizzle" Hahaha Shizzle man! The other great part is when they claim they will be snowboarding "the last first descent in North America" Maybe I am wrong but the Chugach, and Canadian Rockies have alot of peaks that until recently would have been considered unskiable. So this means that there probably havent been first descents on them. The final great moment is a truly stunning moment when one of the boarders lands and has to outride an avalanche. I rewound and watched this moment 3 times. It was seriously impressive. Alright, see for yourself!

FREAKING COOL MAN

Okay so in my post arrested development depression, a bright gleaming light has emerged to pull me up. Will Arnett from Arrested Development and the writer and director of Da Ali G show are working together on a new project. This movie is going to cause many people to die of laughing. I might die laughing, but thats a risk I am willing to take. Read the full premise on aintitcoolnews.com Aint it cool?

Machinama

Here is a fascinating interview with the man who invented a program that was vital in the invention of the genre of Machinama(machinama to the best of my understanding is filming in video games and reediting this raw film into a story. The famous example is red vs. blue.) The interview is mostly about when is the genre of machinama going to take off. His answer is one I totally agree with. He basically says we almost have the technology but its really the story thats missing. The inteview is a fascinating story.

Arrested Development, NOOOOO

NOOOOO, my favorite tv show(pretty much the only thing worth watching on regular tv other than veronica mars) Arrested Development has been dropped from foxs schedule for the rest of the fall season. It will resume later for a total of 13 episodes this year (just enough for a dvd release). Its ratings are apparently to low for fox to support. Kitchen Confedential is also being dropped. Both shows will be replaced with reruns of Prison Break. Hooray that all the stupid rednecks wont get confused by arrested development before prison break can start. Heres hoping that fox makes the right choice and brings it back for another year. Come on fox I am counting on this show to make mondays fun.

Grandmas Boy

Its a slow day when the best thing I have to report about is one funny trailer. This movie called "Grandmas Boy" has the skill to put together a trailer that makes a movie that in all likelihood is going to turn out to be bad, look funny. For that, I congratulate them!

Ghost rider

The first pictures from "Ghost Rider" have been realeased. I am not certain what the motorcycle is called but it looks amazing. This movie is based on a Marvel comic book. Heres the press realease on it. "In order to save his dying father, young stunt cyclist Johnny Blaze sells his soul to Mephistopheles and sadly parts from the pure-hearted Roxanne Simpson, the love of his life. Years later, Johnny's path crosses again with Roxanne, now a gogetting reporter, and also with Mephistopheles, who offers to release Johnny's soul if Johnny becomes the fabled, fiery Ghost Rider, a supernatural agent of vengeance and justice. Mephistopheles charges Johnny with defeating the despicable Blackheart, Mephistopheles's nemesis and son, who plans to displace his father and create a new hell even more terrible than the old one. " This could be AWESOME

Scarlett Johansen!?!?!

It was announced that Scarlett Johannsen is going to be in a movie where she stars as an amazon warrior. Whose idea is this? If I were making this movie, I would not get Scarlett. No offense but seriously Angelina Jolie or J.lo would be awesome amazon warriors. I could actually see them beating up people. Also, This is a long way from when Johannsen got nominated for an oscar. Could she do well in the role? Yes, just look at Charlize Theron in Aeon Flux.(By the way, Her role in Arrested Develepoment last night was GENIUS. That was the hardest I have laughed in a long time) Is she the best choice though? Probably not. I have two words "the island." Anyway well see soon enough.

Matchpoint?

When I first saw the trailer for Matchpoint, I thought huh, that looks interesting. Its got Scarlett Johannsen in it who has been amazing in every movie I have seen her in. (For an interesting note, we decided today that Scarletts voice sounds like a feminine version of Bob Dylan). It also looks strangely similar to last years "Closer." But I did not feel it was worth note, so I forgot about it. Until yesterday when a friend noticed that WOODY ALLEN made this movie. Yes, that Woody Allen. Holy smokes, this looks nothing like a woody allen movie. See for yourself!

Iron Man/The libertines/

Iron Man Marvel has taken back the rights that it had licensed for Iron Man. After 2 years, nothing was being done so it appears that Marvel is going to start again with a blank slate. Darnnabit! I love Iron Man so this delay is excruciating. Oh well as long as they take the time to get it right! I dont want another Fantastic Four. Do you hear me Marvel? More like Spiderman, less like Fantastic Four!
Original article link: http://www.darkhorizons.com/news05/051104c.php
The Libertines Johnny Depp fans pay attention. Libertines stars Johnny Depp as (taken from the site) "John Wilmot, the second Earl of Rochester has a passionate romance with a young actress, Elizabeth Barry, and he writes a scurrilous play which lampoons the monarch who commissioned it, Charles II, leading to the Earl's banishment and eventual downfall." The trailer itself is a teaser trailer which is horribly done. Its done in a strange look that looks like a blurred, old, Super 8 film. Seriously what is up with that. My d8 camera looks better than that stuff. The movie looks relatively interesting than. Ever since Charlie and the Chocalate Factory, I have though Depp was alright, but this role may make me think that he is a talented actor AND an oddball that he regularly plays. Also the films trailer declares itself as "The most controversial movie of the year" What is it with movies declaring themselves things this week. First we have Hostel and now this. I am pretty sure a movie about something that happenend in the 1600s isnt going to be the most controversial movie of the year, but.... maybe Check it out for yourself.
Link: http://www.ifilm.com/ifilmdetail/2680358?htv=12
Jarhead After my local paper just bombed this movie, I checked its rating at Rotten Tomatoes. Right now its at 57% I really want this movie to suceed because the trailer is so awesome. But 57% isnt horrible, but it is not great either. My prediction... Great opening weekend, dive bomb off after that, with no chance for an Oscar. While 57% do like it, no ones calling it a must see movie.

HORROR FILLED FRIDAY

Man, today is full of horror movie announcements!
Final Destination 3 The trailer for Final Destination 3 is up on quicktime. I never saw the first 2 in this series but this trailer just makes the series look hilariously bad. The storyline seems to follow a group of people on a roller coaster that Death is after. Stick around for the end of the trailer because it features some of the worst trailer cgi since the Herby Fully Loaded trailer.

Young Hannibal Some of the first pictures from the new movie Young Hannibal were posted. Young Hannibal looks more like a football jock than he does a scary evil dude. Whatever.

Bits and Peices

Sorry, no full posts today, my school work had to come first. Without further ado though
Jackass 2 has been green lighted. Just when I was thinking to myself, Oh man do we need another one of those. Actually the first one was somewhat funny (especially in the movies extras in which they build a human goldberg device, and in that scene where he jumps into the fan) but I really am not going to go out of my way to see this second one
L.LO news Ahh some of everyones favorite topic. LINDSAY LOHAN! It appears she has decided she is an (IN FRENCH ACCENT) Actor. She has signed on to a movie where she can really prove her acting chops, or acting metal if you prefer. She will be playing the role of a girl who befriends the man who shot John Lennon, the weekend before he shoots him. SOUNDS FASCINATING. Next thing you know we will be seeing Lindsay on "inside the actors studio" talking about how shes a "method actor"
Thats all for today!
Peace out

Oscar predictions?

Some extremely early oscar predictions have been posted on gold-derby. Just thought I would share them because its interesting but I would also like to note that alot of these movies have not even come out yet and are based on assumption. One thing I feel extremely safe assuming is a nomination for best visual effects is King Kong. I cant wait to see kong roaring aroung ripping stuff up.

Underworld: Evolution

This trailer was just posted on the apple site. Finally someone who knows how to make a trailer right. This baby is rocking. Explosions, gunfire, intriguing plot, decent special effects, and sweet, sweet music. While I never saw the original Underworld, this one looks half decent. It at least looks like a fun way to spend a few hours. Still of the epic battle of good and evil movies I am looking foward to, Nightwatch still looks tons better. But its hard to compare because I think Nightwatch has had one of the best trailers of all time (up there with Garden State teaser trailer, and Jarhead trailer) Anyway see for yourself

8 Below

ARGH!... I saw this today and was disgusted with the depths Disney will sink to. The movie is the story of a man(Paul Walker (seriously if your star is Paul Walker you can already tell this movie is going to stink) who lives in antartica with his 8 dogs and after boldly venturing on a scientific mission that goes awra he is forced to leave the dogs behind. The dogs make a heroic journey home and blah blah blah. Seriously, this is the BEST they could do. Want some more evidence of how stupid this movie is. Look at the poster. I am horrible with photoshop and I could have done a better job than they have done. Also the title is sooo clever. 8 Below. Cause theres 8 dogs and there in antartica below the rest of the world and the temp could be 8 below freezing or something like that. SO CLEVER

Jarhead review

NOTE: this is not my oppinion. I have not seen the movie. I had to give my passes to the advance screening to a friend. What follows is his oppinion:
The movie was dissapointing overall. Sam Mendez has made better movies and probably will continue to do so in the future. But this movie simply is not very interesting. This is because nothing really happens, its just crazy people who being out in the desert is causing them to get wackier. The training segments at the beginning are amusing but for most of the movie is not funny. The reason to movie is rated R is because the swear NONSTOP throughout the movie. Jarhead hits its highest point when with stunning camerawork, the army walks through burning oil fields. The advance screening was packed which speaks well for a good opening weekend, but will this movie have the staying power if its a clunker? In my oppinion, no but we will have to see.
Peace out

COMING TOMORROW

Tommorow we will be featuring a review of Jarhead since I had tickets to an advance screening. Be there or be square.
Bits and Peices
After several months the commercial that was made in San Francisco a few months back where they dumped 250000 bouncy balls into a street has finally been released. While the 180 second super edit is not out yet, the zen inducing 60 second commercial is. Seriously after watching this you will be happy. http://www.bravia-advert.com/index.html
Uwe Boll might have to stop making bad movies. The section of the german tax code that gave tax breaks to investors who invested in movie productions is being closed. With the funding drying up, who is going to take his place as the king of bad movies? (maybe he and eli roth can go cry in a corner

Trouble brewing for Shrek 3

Note: I got this from a unreliable source /note According to this source, Justin Timberlake, who has been hired to play a central role in Shrek 3(because his girlfriend Cameron thought he would be just PERFECT for it) is not surprisingly failing miserably at it. This could be because he has no talent whatsoever and has thus far been relying on looks, but according to a unnamed dreamworks source "hes just not a voice actor"(I had no idea he was any kind of actor but okay..... Anyway, best of luck to the dreamworks crew in dealing with an actor who cannot act. (may i suggest tobias funke. I believe he would be perfect for the part of King arthur.)

Eli Roths: HOSTEL

After I saw this disgusting, horrible trailer for Hostel, I just had to write about it. First off, the trailer reveals the twist that people pay money to torture others. If there were a handbook of things to not put in a trailer for a movie... I am pretty sure not revealing the big twist is number 1. Besides that, this trailer is just gross, and had several scenes in it that I cringed and that is not something easy to accomplish. For some reason though this trailer is not red banded, and can instead be shown before the showing of any movie. This is not appropriate at all for any children. I am just going to say that. Any way the other great accomplishment of this trailer is the fact that in the trailer it says "from the masterminds that brought you: Cabin Fever, Texas Chainsaw Massacre, and Kill Bill Volume 2" Declaring your self a mastermind in your own trailer is pathetic. Eli Roth(the director) takes it a step further though and the movie is introduced as Eli Roths: Hostel. Come on man, you made 3 movies, 2 of which are horrible and you go and declare your movie with your name in front. Thats worse than pathetic! Heres the trailer http://movies.yahoo.com/feature/hostelqt1.html
